Ribeirão

Our community is essentially agricultural, we are around three hundred people. Once upon a time, before we discovered the aquifer and managed to develop the water system drop by drop, the fields grew spontaneously, the rain fed them. Today, however, we are able to cultivate in larger quantities and also sell the production in other cities, Porto Novo or Tarrafal for example. My name is Adilson Santos Veríssimo and I'm from the Riberão water and sewage network.

My name is Margareta Évora and together with my family I run a guesthouse, accommodation for tourists and hikers: we decided to embark on this adventure about two years ago, we are completing the work. I learned this job in Mindelo, I worked for years in a hotel and one day, suddenly, the owner told me she was leaving and leaving the organization in my hands. I discovered that I was good at this and then the idea came to me to recreate a similar reality here, at home: we are turning this into reality, together. Yes, our work is as a team: I take care of the kitchen, my mother takes care of the rooms, my father takes care of the renovations. At the end of the day everyone does everything, that is the true strength. We welcome large groups that stop for lunch, Ribeirão is a crossing point, it crosses one of the most beautiful paths on the island, there are many guides with whom we collaborate.

Together with Maria do Rosário, João Nascimento, Maria de Fátima and Adilson Santos we want to create an opportunity for sustainable growth for this community, a reality within which skills and inclinations, desires and personal projects can circulate, making them available to each other.

Each of us takes care of a fundamental part of the circular economy that we intend to set in motion: António makes the water irrigate the fields that João cultivates, so I buy fruits and vegetables for the kitchen of my restaurant in whose spaces, Maria Fátima and Maria do Rosário transform these same fruits and vegetables to produce jams, liqueurs and desserts.

Little by little we will use a special space for the direct sale of the products we package. The objective is to found a cooperative, the road is long but we have already covered it.
